Terms of Service · The PluggedIn MCP
On this page
1. Agreement
These product-specific Terms of Service govern your access to and use of The PluggedIn MCP at mcp.genaiunplugged.com. They are supplemental to and governed by the GenAI Unplugged Terms of Service (the "Master Terms"), which cover disclaimers of warranties, limitation of liability, indemnification, intellectual property, governing law (Commonwealth of Pennsylvania), and dispute resolution (30-day informal period, then binding arbitration, class action waiver). By signing in or using The PluggedIn MCP you agree to both documents. In the event of any conflict, the Master Terms control.
2. What this product is
The PluggedIn MCP is a Model Context Protocol (MCP) server operated by GENAI UNPLUGGED LLC. It gives compatible AI clients. Including Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, and any other MCP-capable application. Access to a set of tools that can read GenAI Unplugged newsletter archive content, member assets, and (where you provide your own API keys) make calls to third-party providers on your behalf. Access requires an active GenAI Unplugged Substack subscription (free tier or paid). The server is hosted on Cloudflare Workers at mcp.genaiunplugged.com, with sign-in flows and bridge endpoints running on Oracle Cloud infrastructure at www.genaiunplugged.com.
The PluggedIn MCP is a service, not a downloadable product. You receive access, not a transferable license. GENAI UNPLUGGED LLC controls, operates, and is solely responsible for the service. There is no co-brand partner.
3. Subscription gate and access eligibility
Access to The PluggedIn MCP requires an active GenAI Unplugged Substack subscription:
- Free tier: available to any active Substack subscriber (free or paid). No credit card required with us. Access is granted at sign-in after your subscriber status is confirmed.
- PluggedIn (Paid) tier: requires an active GenAI Unplugged paid Substack subscription ($8.97/month or $69.97 lifetime / 5-year, as set on Substack). The paid tier unlocks additional tools and higher usage limits. Pricing is managed by Substack, not by us.
"Active" means your subscription has not been cancelled, lapsed, or suspended on Substack at the time of the access request.
Access auto-revokes when your subscription is cancelled or lapses. Tier changes and cancellations propagate from Substack's records to our subs-validator every 30 minutes; your MCP access reflects the change within 90 minutes. You can force an immediate tier update from the /account page using the "I just upgraded" button (rate-limited to once per minute). Tool calls already in flight at the moment of revocation will complete normally; GENAI UNPLUGGED LLC is not liable for any third-party API charges incurred via BYOK during this propagation window.
You may not share, sell, transfer, or allow any other person to use your access tokens or session credentials.
4. Payment and refunds
We do not process payments for The PluggedIn MCP directly. Subscription payments are collected and managed by Substack under Substack's own billing terms. Refund requests for the Substack subscription are governed by Substack's refund policy, not by ours.
The liability cap and refund provisions in Sections 4.4 and 11 of the Master Terms apply to purchases of GenAI Unplugged products sold through our own stores. Because MCP subscription billing occurs exclusively on Substack, those provisions govern your Substack billing relationship. Contact Substack support for billing disputes.
For the avoidance of doubt: the Limitation of Liability in Master Terms §11 (including the cap on damages) applies to any claim arising from acts or omissions of GENAI UNPLUGGED LLC related to The PluggedIn MCP. Including incorrect tier assignment, service errors, BYOK pass-through behaviour, and audit-log handling. Regardless of where subscription billing occurs.
If you believe a billing error occurred on our end (for example, an incorrect tier assignment after a verified upgrade), contact us at support@genaiunplugged.com and we will investigate within 5 business days.
5. Bring-your-own-key (BYOK) third-party API calls
Some MCP tools support BYOK: you pass your own third-party API key as an X-BYOK-* request header (for example, X-BYOK-Gemini, X-BYOK-OpenAI, X-BYOK-Anthropic, X-BYOK-YouTube, X-BYOK-Perplexity, X-BYOK-Tavily, X-BYOK-ElevenLabs). When you do this:
- We never store your key. The key value travels in the request header, is forwarded once to the upstream provider in the same request lifecycle, and is then dropped from memory. It is never written to logs, databases, or any persistent storage. See the Privacy Policy for the technical detail.
- You are solely responsible for any charges, usage, quotas, or rate-limit consequences incurred against your own third-party accounts as a result of BYOK tool calls.
- We are not liable for third-party provider outages, quota exhaustion, or API changes that cause a BYOK tool call to fail. Failures are surfaced to your MCP client as tool errors.
- The per-email rate limits (100 tool calls per day, 20 tool calls per hour) apply to all tool calls regardless of whether they use BYOK keys or our infrastructure. These limits are a courtesy cap, not a contractual SLA.
By passing an API key via X-BYOK-*, you confirm that you are authorized to use that key, that you accept the upstream provider's terms of service, and that you understand GENAI UNPLUGGED LLC is acting as a pass-through only.
6. AI output and MCP tool output
The tools provided by The PluggedIn MCP return content drawn from our archive, your own MCP client's AI model, or third-party APIs you have chosen to invoke. Output is a functional starting point and is not professional, legal, financial, medical, or strategic advice. We do not guarantee the accuracy, completeness, or fitness of tool output for any particular purpose. You are responsible for reviewing output before acting on it.
7. Acceptable use
In addition to the prohibited-use rules in the Master Terms, you may not:
- Use The PluggedIn MCP to make automated, scripted, or bulk tool calls beyond normal interactive use, except with our prior written approval.
- Attempt to reverse-engineer, scrape, or extract the tool definitions, system prompts, or internal logic of the MCP server.
- Share your OAuth access tokens or refresh tokens with any other person or system.
- Use BYOK headers to route requests through our server to a third-party API for purposes unrelated to the tools we provide.
- Attempt to bypass the subscriber gate or the tier enforcement logic.
- Use the service in any way that violates the terms of service of your MCP client application (Claude Desktop, Cursor, Cline, etc.).
8. Service availability
The PluggedIn MCP is provided on an "as-is" and "as-available" basis. We may modify, rate-limit, suspend, or discontinue the service or any tool at any time without prior notice. Planned maintenance will be communicated on a best-effort basis via the GenAI Unplugged Substack. Paid subscribers are not entitled to a service credit for downtime except where expressly stated in writing by GENAI UNPLUGGED LLC.
9. Disconnecting and account deletion
You can revoke all your OAuth tokens and disconnect your MCP client at any time from the /account page. Disconnecting does not cancel your Substack subscription. Manage your subscription directly on Substack.
To request deletion of all data we hold about you (audit log rows, KV token records), email support@genaiunplugged.com. We will action deletion requests within 30 days. The 90-day audit log auto-purges in any case.
10. Support
Questions, issues, and bug reports: support@genaiunplugged.com. We aim to respond within 3 business days on a best-effort basis. We do not guarantee resolution of all issues.
11. Conflict with Master Terms
Nothing in these product Terms expands, reduces, or overrides the GenAI Unplugged Master Terms. If any provision here conflicts with the Master Terms, the Master Terms control.
